Image
During this lesson, the children recapped the different countries that can be found in South America as well as the different oceans and continents. Then, they studies some of the major physical features found in South America. They already knew about the Amazon Rainforest and the Amazon River as they studied this in year 3. Thus, they focussed on the Atacama Desert, Andes, Lake Titicaca and Cape Horn.  Once the children had drawn a key and labelled their maps they carried out some research on a feature of their choice. Some interesting information was shared with the class.

We finished writing down the items on that we didn’t know and then used a French / English dictionary to find the meanings. We learnt new vocabulary and practiced saying them.We then practised saying and writing what we ate and drank  in French in the past tense.

What are the names of the countries of South America?

Today, the children used an atlas to help them look at their 14 countries found in South America. Twelve of these are sovereign states, meaning they are owned and rules by South America. Two of them are ruled by other countries. These are Falkland Islands who are owned by UK and French Guayana who is owned by the French.
