Year 6 Design Technology!

Year 6 kicked off their Design Technology project this today. In 5 weeks time, they’ll be skilled flat-bread makers! Today’s lesson started by researching the origin of bread. Did you know that bread was first made around 14,000 years ago? 

We learnt how flour is made (ask us at home about the 3-step process) and explored the concept of food miles. We found out that the island is full of wheat fields and we have a flour mill here too. 

Soon after, the best bit, tasting and describing the appearance, taste and texture of different types of bread. What a way to end a Monday - enjoying chewy, soft sourdough and delicate, flavourful garlic & herb flatbread.

Place Value - our first unit of learning in year 6 , and the children have shown a terrific understanding. Place value is the foundation of our mathematical  knowledge, and as we conclude negative numbers this week, we are looking forward to moving onto  calculating using the four operations .
