What is an Earthquake?
During the lesson, the children recapped their learning from year 3; layers of the Earth. Then, they began to identify the different ways the tectonic plates move and their plate boundaries. Using this information the children were able to explain how the molten rock moves the plates in different directions. Whilst they move around they knock into each other and thus the pressure is built up. Once the pressure is released, the shock waves make the ground vibrate/shake and thus an earthquake is made. Once the children had finished their work they looked at the live cam to see how many earthquakes had happened in the last 24 hours.
